Cape Town (yet again...)

For the third time on the trip I was heading to Cape Town. This time though, I was on four wheels and I had company...
Funnily enough, Nish (who I met up with the last time I was with Holly) was in Cape Town for the weekend, so we met up again. This time though, it was slightly more raucous, and what started with a couple of drinks ended up with bodyshots in a gay bar. Pity the poor guy who was doing shots off me as it turns out my chest can hold a considerable amount of tequila. Needless to say it was a slow start the next day.

In another coincidence, some of Holly’s friends were in town too, but as this was not a tequila bodyshot kind of crowd I to go shopping for some clothes that hadn’t been dragged around Africa for 9 months. I was also unaware that stories of tequila bodyshots were not appropriate conversation at dinner (at least as far as Holly was concerned, though other people there seemed to enjoy them; I really can’t think why she would be so reticent...).

Rather than stay the whole time in Cape Town, we took a ride out to Stellenbosch for a rather more sophisticated attempt at wine tasting (at least compared to my last effort). Holly had found a great place to stay, and a day spent being driven around the rolling hills and vineyards of the area was a very welcome change of pace.

After a couple of days it was back to Cape Town, and just enough time to tackle Table Mountain before we had to go our separate ways. Cable car maintenance meant there was only one option - walking both ways. However, the sun was shining and the sky was blue so it wasn’t such a terrible hardship. I’d like to say the feeling of reaching the top was sweeter for having walked, but the lack of cable car also meant no shops or cafe at the top so all we could have was a small ration of water and sit down to celebrate.

In one final coincidence, Kev and Em (the Aussie couple who had been stalking me down the West coast) were also in Cape Town having decided for the sake of their sanity and their marriage to end their trip their and head back to Australia. We met up for some food, drinks and a catch up, then the next morning it was back to Uganda for me and back to Miami for Holly.
